What I read this month: January 2019
This year, I am going to try and read 52 books, one a week. This is what I’ve read so far.
- Working Class Man by Jimmy Barnes
The sequel to Barnes’ first memoir, ‘Working Class Boy’, this book is a surprisingly good read, although I didn’t find it as interesting as the first. - Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut
A collection of vibrant short stories from a fantastic author. The book explores various dystopian futures, fictional scientific discoveries, and reflections on life in general. Most of the stories, although quite short, have a twist, sometimes dark, comedic, or both. - Book of Longing by Leonard Cohen
Featuring poems, drawings and reflections from the late songwriter, this would have to be one of the most interesting poetry books I have read in a while. - The QI Book of General Ignorance by John Lloyd and John Mitchinson
Full of laughs and curiosities, this book was jam-packed with debunked ‘facts’ and idioms, random trivia, and information to impress your friends (or make you seem very pretentious, you choose how to view it). - One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson
It is kind of cheating, adding this to the list, seeing as I haven’t quite finished it yet, but I’m sure I will soon. A crime novel from an award-winning literary author, this book is the perfect mixture of a good thriller, and a well-paced literary novel.
