Review: The New Kid (Unpopular Me)

The New Kid: Unpopular Me by James O'Loghlin

This book review is brought to you by Book Boy Jr, aged 12.

Title: The New Kid (Unpopular Me)

Author: James O’Loghlin (ill. Matthew Martin)

Publisher: Pan Macmillan Australia

About the book: This book is about a boy named Sam who moves to Canberra in grade six. He is 11 years old and has no friends, but decides he is going to make himself The Most Popular Kid Ever. This is the story of his journey to popularity – and all the things that go wrong along the way.

What I thought: I think this book is very entertaining and a bit funny – not laugh-out-loud funny, but ‘laughing on the inside’ funny. I read the book very quickly, and I liked the illustrations, which I thought helped the story along.

This is an easy read for ages 9-12.

I am looking forward to reading book two in the series, which is called The New Kid: Very Popular Me and is out on 25 June 2019.
